"Johansson is one of the few free players who’s managed to make humorous interludes a natural and effective extension of his music. Babel is a theatrical presentation – evidently one of those grandly conceived collaborative ventures. There’s some good improvised music-making here, particularly from Schlippenbach and Lovens. And then there are the rather pleasant clomping-about-the-stage sounds that, in their ambiant nature, also provide inadvertent interest."
