New Orleans by way of Europe: here are seven Jelly Roll Morton originals lovingly arranged for big band by Alexander von Schlippenbach. The project was commissioned by the Italian broadcaster RAI, and features the RAI band fronted by key soloists from the FMP stable, including Paul Lovens, Gerd Dudek, and Schlippenbach himself. Recorded live in 1980, here is a joyous jazz valentine from Roma to NOLA.

REVIEWS

"The sound is authentic with a contemporary edge. Schlippenbach has managed to embellish Jelly Roll’s 'rolling' lines with his arrangements, and the soloists and rhythm section do a marvelous job of working within the structural parameters." -- Milo Fine, Cadence
