REVIEWS

"These outings stand out as a prime example of using extended piano techniques to great effect. Though the name of this record was eventually picked up by a co-op quartet the pianist is also part of, he casts some of his best magic and music right here. Entrancing."
-Marc Chenard, CODA

"These solo sessions are essential not only for those all-too-few Tippett fans, but for anyone interested in either the piano or music as magical endeavor. And for those curious about Tippett, this is the very best place to start."
-Thom Jurek, All Music Guide

REVIEWS

"...the man really is a consummate musician. This disk should be considered essential to those interested in 20th-century piano techniques. Also to those who just want to be floored by what can be accomplished by one man, one piano."
-Cadence (reviewing the combined CD)

"[Tippett] summons vast yet simultaneously delicate sonic fields – rumbling in the bass registers or trilling up high – rather than narrative lines. And he expands his palette by preparing his instrument à la John Cage, exploiting a creaking piano stool, duetting with a music box, rubbing the wires directly, blowing simple flutes, and vocalizing sparely. Although Tippett doesn’t indulge in any overtly liner structures on this CD (unless one counts the vague allusion to a folk song about nine minutes into track five, “…I Hear Your Voice Again…”) his work always has compelling momentum."
-Howard Mandell, Jazziz (reviewing the combined CD)
