READ CAREFULLY: This digital release combines two LPs. It differs from the CD version that combined these two records on one disk, and which featured slightly edited versions of both albums. This version includes one extra song from The Death of the Rare Bird Ymir not included on the CD: "Good Days II." This version also includes two unedited songs from Bonobo Beach -- "Southern Monologue" and "Could Be Nice" -- restoring five minutes to the Bonobo Beach run time.

------ THE DEATH OF THE RARE BIRD YMIR ------

credits

released April 25, 1979

REVIEWS

"Listening to Ymir again reveals a player with a head full of ideas requiring radical means to realize them. Drawing on traditional forms and expanding them into ‘free’ areas, Reichel created some astonishing sounds on his acoustic guitar(s) – microtonal harmonics, a plangent hammered dulcimer style, and a koto-like aridity."
- The Wire

"The Death of the Rare Bird Ymir qualifies as avant-garde in the truest sense of the term, but it is also just about as delightful and user-friendly as avant-garde music can get."
- All Music Guide; 4 stars

Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD: 4 Stars.

Hans Reichel: guitar

Recorded by Hans Reichel in February 1979 in Wuppertal-Rott.

CD mastering by Olaf Rupp.
Produced by Jost Gebers.

Cover design by Hans Reichel.

Everything taped as played! 1 & 6 were fumbled on 2 guitars at the same time. -H.R.

----- BONOBO BEACH -----

released September 30, 1981

REVIEWS

"Bonobo Beach is mellow in mood, more structured and melodic than with Reichel’s Ymir picking, sweet string-bending and bell-like harmonics sounding uncannily like Henry Kaiser duetting with himself."
- The Wire

"So you say you like the guitar antics of Fred Frith, Derek Bailey, and Henry Kaiser? Then you must hear Hans Reichel."
- Option magazine

"The music here has the 'new vocabulary' of scratching and avant-hammering on, but also includes sensitive and strange lyricism as well as multiple effects/lines on the electric guitar pieces in particular. The music ebbs and flows very organically (and sometimes humorously)."
- Milo Fine, Cadence
