John Cratchley Early Quintett recordings: 1966/67...the arrangements remind me a little of early Ornette in places,but this has a great pedigree of it's own. Interesting to hear Can's Jaki Liebezeit's roots as a free jazz drummer!
It's a vivacious recording and everyone is going full pelt to put their ideas out there...it's Schoof's quintet but the seeds of so many other great groups are inherent here. Unmissable. Young men with energy to spare nearly 50 years ago! This recording is about as old as i've seriously been listening to music...that adds some thoughtful context...
