"Not only does this album feature strong soloists, playing in what has now become the 'free tradition,' but it is also quite interesting from the compositional standpoint. The opening track uses pairs of soloists blowing simultaneously over a repeated bluesy, stompin’ saxophone ensemble figure. Nice. Other high points are: Tchicai’s 'Kirke Varløse,' a reworking of Stravinsky’s final theme from the “Firebird Suite”, and a 49-second 'Marsch II,' by Kuchenbuch, with its echoes of European Music Hall. All the saxophones are particularly impressive. Recommended." -- Cadence
