In many ways, this is a lost John Tchicai album. It's a showcase for his formidable talents as a big band leader and arranger - not much seen since his days with Candentia Nova Danica - featuring an impressive group of second-generation German jazz musicians. Tchicai puts the emphasis on ensemble interplay and compositional prowess, creating a remarkable album that deserves a much-wider audience.

REVIEWS
.
"Not only does this album feature strong soloists, playing in what has now become the 'free tradition,' but it is also quite interesting from the compositional standpoint. The opening track uses pairs of soloists blowing simultaneously over a repeated bluesy, stompin’ saxophone ensemble figure. Nice. Other high points are: Tchicai’s 'Kirke Varløse,' a reworking of Stravinsky’s final theme from the “Firebird Suite”, and a 49-second 'Marsch II,' by Kuchenbuch, with its echoes of European Music Hall. All the saxophones are particularly impressive. Recommended." -- Cadence

"This ensemble deserves its name because it really is a 'who's who' of second-generation of German Free Jazz players, gathered here under the leadership and guidance of John Tchicai. The name emphasizes the group's contributions and the recognition is deserved given high quality and confidence which are demonstrated on this album. It is amazing how naturally serial composition techniques, jazz rhythms, timbres from new music and spontaneous improvisation are combined here together." -- Jazz Podium
